Dribbling The Ball

The # 1 Dribbling Drill

Dribbling a soccer ball is one of the most exciting aspects of any soccer game. One of the fundamental errors that players make when dribbling a soccer ball, is that the player often focuses totally on the ball, and does not know what is going on around him.

This Free Soccer Drill will help teach your players to dribble the ball and be aware of

  1. Passing options
  2. Opponents looking to tackle
  3. Space to exploit
This is the #1 drill for teaching young players how to dribble a soccer ball.

The #2 Dribbling Drill

This is another great drill to help players learn how to dribble a soccer ball and be aware of what is going on around them.

I have used this drill alot, and I can guarantee it is so much better than getting players to dribble though cones!

This is the #2 drill for teaching young players how to dribble a soccer ball.

The #3 Dribbling Drill

This is another great soccer drill that is quite simple but has fantastic benefits
  1. Players need to keep their heads up to see where they are going
  2. The competitive nature of the drills makes it fun and get the players to dribble under pressure
This is the #3 drill for teaching young players how to dribble a soccer ball.

2 Secrets to dribbling a soccer ball

Learning how to dribble is one thing, but how do some players (eg Brazilian players) dribbling a soccer ball with such ease and grace.

Here are a couple of dribbling "secrets" that will help your players dribble better with style.

Drills to improve a players first touch

A players first touch on the ball is a vital skill to master. A player will need to have full confidence in his ability to ensure that the 1st touch is effective and puts the ball where the player needs it.

I have used this 12 minute routine to improve players 1st touch in both practice warm ups and pre game warm ups. The key to improve 1st touch is to get lots of touches on the ball and as often as possible.

Of all of the FREE youth soccer drills, this is one that I have used the most, and I would recommend that you use this 12 minute routine to improve your players 1st touch. Remember it does take time, do not expect results overnight!
